Lloyd's Register (LR) is a world-top authoritative third-party maritime organization, founded in 1760 with nearly 270 years of maritime inspection experience. Its issued assessment reports and classification approvals have extremely high credibility in the global maritime industry, equivalent to the "high-end quality medal" of containers, mainly used in scenarios such as ocean transportation, high-end overseas projects and marine insurance.
Different from the mandatory CSC certification and general ISO testing, Lloyd's Register assessment is a "voluntary assessment", but it has extremely high gold content - containers that pass the LR assessment mean that their safety performance and structural reliability have reached the top standards in the global maritime field, and can be highly recognized by shipowners, insurance companies and high-end customers. Especially in the fields of container modified houses, special containers and ocean transportation, LR assessment is almost a "passport".
The core focus of Lloyd's Register assessment is "maritime safety and reliability", putting forward more stringent requirements on the basis of CSC certification and ISO testing, including: hull-level structural strength audit, focusing on testing the stability of steel materials and welding processes, using non-destructive testing technologies such as ultrasonic and magnetic particle testing to ensure that the defect size does not exceed the specified standard; marine wind and wave resistance assessment, combining the latest IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) rules to assess the stability of containers under different sea conditions and reduce the risk of container loss at sea; stacking safety and marine damage reliability testing, simulating extreme stacking and impact scenarios in ocean transportation to ensure that containers can still protect goods in case of accidents; at the same time, LR will also conduct a comprehensive assessment of the container's lashing system and loading/unloading safety, complying with the latest IACS UR C6 and UR C7 rules.
Since July 2025, Lloyd's Register has updated the container ship classification rules, adding the RDA (Roll Design Assessment) mark, which assesses the rolling behavior of container ships under different loading and environmental conditions through on-board software, further improving the maritime transportation safety of containers. After passing the LR assessment, the enterprise will obtain an authoritative inspection report or classification approval, which not only can improve the market competitiveness of products, but also reduce marine insurance rates, making it easier to win the favor of ocean shipowners and high-end overseas projects.
