This is far more than a simple cut‑and‑weld conversion of a container. It is a deep industrial refurbishment tailored specifically for North American working conditions. Using a standard 20‑foot high‑cube (20HQ) as our base, we retain its full top‑and‑bottom rail framework and corner castings. Through a side‑pull telescoping expansion mechanism, the formerly cramped 15 m² (161 ft²) enclosed space is transformed into a usable floor area of nearly 25 m² (269 ft²).
Last year, we received an order for Hawaii. The client was blunt: "Your freeze-resistant designs are useless here. I need something that can withstand intense sun and salt spray-and I need it to stay put during a typhoon."
So, taking our standard 20-foot high-cube expandable container as the base, we made three specific modifications to suit the island climate:


First, we switched to marine-grade paint.
The air in Hawaii is heavy with salt; standard paint starts blistering within six months. We used a zinc-rich primer topped with two layers of acrylic finish, passing an 800-hour salt spray test. After using it for over a year, the client sent photos: the container, sitting right by the sea, showed only minor surface rust on the corners-nothing a quick wipe couldn't fix.
Second, we doubled the thickness of the insulation and added a reflective film.
Daytime sun on the island is fierce, making the metal skin hot to the touch. We increased the roof's closed-cell rubber insulation from 20mm to 40mm and applied an aluminum foil reflective film to the exterior; tests showed the interior was 8°C cooler than the outside at midday. It doesn't get stuffy at night, either, thanks to adjustable louvered vents on the side walls that allow the sea breeze to flow right through.


Third, we reinforced the bottom supports and added diagonal bracing to the door frames.
Hurricanes occasionally pass through Hawaii; while the weather is usually mild, the client didn't want to take any chances. We increased the support points for the expandable section from four to six and welded triangular gussets onto the door frames. We calculated the structure to withstand wind speeds of 130 mph. I can't say for sure how it would handle a full-blown typhoon, but the client reported that during a strong windstorm last year-when neighbors' sheds were blown over-his container merely experienced some window rattling.
Plug‑and‑Play Utility Connections (Solving On‑site Installation Headaches)
All electrical wiring and plumbing are pre‑routed inside the wall cavities during manufacturing. The unit comes with NEMA 3R‑rated waterproof quick‑connect interfaces for power and water supply/drainage. Once positioned, the unit can be operational within 30 minutes – simply connect to the main power source and municipal water/sewer lines. There is no need for on‑site welding or assembling countless loose parts, making it ideal for overseas project sites where skilled labour may be scarce.

- Foundation: recommend 10cm thick gravel bed or concrete strip footing to ensure even load distribution on all four corners after expansion.
- Lifting: must use dedicated lifting lugs at the four corners; do not lift by strapping the roof.
- Utility connections: if local regulations require licensed electricians/plumbers, please comply.
- Stock units available; custom colors or interior layout require an additional 15‑20 working days.
